BCSS MEETING October 12, 2004 Matt opened the meeting with new business: Linda asked if it would be possible to change the Christmas meeting to a Friday or Saturday night to make it easier for members who live out of town or who want to bring children along. Nobody had any objection and Anne said she would check to see if the room is available on Dec. 10. Linda also brought up the renewal of work days in the the cactus garden at CSUB. It was decided that we would meet out there on Saturday, the16th at 9 am to work and plan future work days. Lynn spoke about Catalina and the difficulty of getting a date on which most people can go. It was finally settled that we would go on Nov. 13-14. Lynn encouraged people to pair up and room together if desired. It was mentioned that Cactus Data Plants will be having its fall sale on Sat, Oct 30 and that a group would be leaving from Supreme Bean at 7am. Maynard spoke about our money situation: the club netted $634.09 from the show and sale, which is substantially down from previous years. It was mentioned that some of the displays need to be updated. Stephen mentioned an estate sale which was offering some succulents. Stephen then presented the program: Mesembs. He told us of his many mesembs growing in his yard. His photos were beautiful and the presentation was superb. We all enjoyed learning about this fabulous group of plants, which seem quite comfortable right here in Bakersfield. The abundance of plants in this group which will grow here is amazing. I'm sure most members left with a greater knowledge of this group of plants. We then had the raffle, and more food. |
