BCSS MEETING
November 9, 2004

Vice President Vonne Zdeneck ran the meeting tonight in the absence of President Matt.

One of the important items discussed tonight was our Club elections. President Matt Ekegren will not be able to continue as president next year and the club needs someone to step up and take his place (it’s not a hard job, really). Many of the other positions will continue with the people we have now, but, if you would like to help out the club in a more official manor, feel free to speak up! Most of our officers would allow another to try their hand at their position.

Also: The next workday at the Cal State Garden was scheduled for Sunday November 21st (see story on page 10). Sydney brought in prints of the group picture she took at the Cal State Garden when we had our meeting there in June. This is, as far as anyone remembers, the only group picture ever taken of the club members.

Tonight’s program "A Review of Mams" was a CSSA slide show. It showcased a wide variety of Mammillaria with good pictures of potted specimens as well as many habitat photos. The text tended to concentrate a bit too much on who classified each species (not a strong point of interest in our group) and Maynard, acting as narrator, skipped much of it. Still, it was very good at what it was supposed to be, a review, and we were given the full range of Mammillaria’s diversity.

After the show, we had our raffle, which was chock-full of large plants brought in by Ed Colley. Ed, as it turns out, is moving and will not be taking his greenhouse with him. Consequently, he is reducing the size of his collection, which I am sure many of our raffle participants appreciate!
